Student moves for UCL

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

UCL is spread across Bloomsbury with its halls pushed out into Fitzrovia, King's Cross and beyond, which means a UCL move is rarely more than two miles and almost always awkward at one end. The campus is walkable. The streets around it are Camden controlled parking with no loading bays, and that is the part that decides the day.

Where UCL actually puts people

The teaching is on and around Gower Street, but the accommodation is scattered: Ramsay Hall and Astor College in Fitzrovia, Garden Halls on Cartwright Gardens, and a long tail of smaller houses across Camden and Islington. A UCL move is usually a short one between two of those addresses, or from a hall into a shared flat for second year.

That second-year move is the one people underestimate. A hall room fits in a van with room to spare. A shared flat means a bed, a desk and a year of accumulation, and it usually lands in the last week of June when every other UCL student is doing the same thing.

Bloomsbury parking, which is the whole problem

Almost every street around the campus is Camden controlled parking. There are very few loading bays, the squares are permit-only, and a van on a single yellow during the working day is ticketed rather than tolerated.

Where a job justifies it we apply to Camden for a bay suspension, which needs several working days of notice. For a single room it is usually cheaper to carry from a legal stop a street away, and we will tell you which of the two your address needs.

Worth knowing

  • Give us the hall name rather than the postcode, since UCL halls behave very differently from each other
  • Book the June move before exams start, when the whole university leaves inside a fortnight
  • For a second year move into a shared flat, price it as a room plus furniture rather than as a hall room
  • Ask about storage and the September return together if you are going home for the summer

UCL: common questions

How much is a student move for UCL?

A single room within London is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220. That covers the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge. A second year move into a shared flat with furniture is closer to the studio band at £340 to £620.

Which UCL halls do you work at?

All of them, and most often Ramsay Hall and Astor College in Fitzrovia and Garden Halls on Cartwright Gardens, each of which has its own page here. The rest are smaller houses across Camden and Islington and behave like ordinary residential addresses.

Can you park near the Gower Street campus?

Rarely at the door. Almost everything around it is Camden controlled parking with very few loading bays. We plan a legal stop nearby and carry, or apply for a bay suspension where the job is large enough to justify the cost and the lead time.

When is the busiest time to book?

The middle or third weekend of September for arrivals, and the last two weeks of June for departures. Both book out. The spring term is the quietest and cheapest time to move if you have any choice.

Send the two addresses and the floor at each end and we will come back with a fixed price, usually within a couple of hours. No site visit needed for most jobs.
