Paddington splits neatly in two. North of the station, the Paddington Basin and Merchant Square developments are modern apartment blocks with underground loading bays, concierges and goods lifts. South and west of it, the terraces around Sussex Gardens and Norfolk Square are Victorian conversions with narrow stairs and permit parking.
They are almost different jobs. A Merchant Square move is a booking exercise with a lift at the end of it. A Norfolk Square move is three flights of stairs and a van parked as close as the bays allow.
The buildings in Paddington
The waterside developments are new build with proper service infrastructure: loading bays, goods lifts, a concierge who handles contractor access. The older stock is stucco and brick terraces converted into flats and small hotels, four or five storeys, no lift, with steps up to a raised ground floor. Praed Street and the roads by the station have flats above commercial units.
Parking, loading and access in Paddington
Paddington sits outside the Congestion Charge zone, which is a genuine saving on moves in and out. Westway and Bishop's Bridge Road carry restrictions and Praed Street is congested with station traffic most of the day. Westminster controls the parking. The new developments have booked loading bays with height limits, usually around two metres, which rules out a Luton box van. For the terraces we load from the street and a suspension is worth considering on a full move.

My block has a basement loading bay. Will your van fit?
Check the height restriction and tell us the number. Most Paddington Basin bays are around two metres, which a Luton will not clear but a smaller van will. We would rather bring the right vehicle than find out at the ramp.
Is Paddington inside the Congestion Charge zone?
No. W2 sits outside the zone. If the other end of your move is inside it the charge applies to that leg only, and it is already in the figure we quote.
Can you meet me at the station with luggage?
Yes. Station runs with cases and boxes are a common small job. There is no long stopping outside Paddington, so we agree a meeting point and a tight time rather than waiting.
