Work, not just belongings
A UAL move usually includes a portfolio, stretched canvases, boards, or a piece that is not finished and not packable. Those travel upright, wrapped away from the surface, and never flat under anything else, exactly as we handle artwork on any other job.
Tell us at the quote stage if there is work in the load. It changes how the van is packed rather than the price, and getting it wrong is not something you can put right afterwards.
Six colleges, six different jobs
Central Saint Martins at King's Cross has the Coal Drops Yard estate around it and good access. London College of Communication at Elephant and Castle sits in a redevelopment zone that changes month to month. Chelsea is on Millbank next to Tate Britain, Camberwell and Wimbledon are further out, and London College of Fashion has moved east to Stratford.
Give us the college and the hall. UAL is the university where the name on its own is least useful to a van driver.
Worth knowing
- Say if there is a portfolio or canvases in the load, because they travel differently
- Give us the college rather than just UAL, since the six are nothing like each other
- Materials count: a roll of paper and a box of paint is heavier than it looks
- Wrap finished work yourself if you would rather nobody else handled it, and tell us what not to touch
University of the Arts London: common questions
How much is a student move for UAL?
A single room within London is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220. A move that includes a portfolio, canvases or materials sits at the upper end because of how it has to be packed rather than because of the weight.
Can you move canvases and portfolios?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do for UAL. Work travels upright, wrapped with a non-plastic layer against the surface, and never laid flat under anything. Say what is in the load when you book.
Which UAL college is easiest to move at?
Central Saint Martins at King's Cross, because the estate around Coal Drops Yard was built recently and has proper access. Elephant and Castle is the least predictable, since the area is mid-redevelopment.
Do you handle materials as well as belongings?
Yes. Paper, board, paint and half-finished work all come with the room. It is worth mentioning the volume, because a year of materials is heavier and bulkier than a year of clothes.
