Moving in and out of International Hall

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

International Hall is the largest single hall the University of London runs, home to up to 850 students and, unusually, their partners and children, in wings built between 1963 and 2003 around Lansdowne Terrace and Brunswick Square. A single catered room here is a standard hall move, but a family flat in the same building is a small house move, and that range is what makes this address different from every other hall on this site.

Loading and parking

Lansdowne Terrace is a short street off Guilford Street, and the hall wraps round towards Brunswick Square with Coram's Fields and the Brunswick Centre close by. All of it is Camden controlled parking, and Guilford Street is a through route used by buses and taxis, so unloading happens in a bay rather than on the main road. The main wings are post-war blocks, while some postgraduate flats are in converted Georgian houses on Lansdowne Terrace and Guilford Street, which means stairs. It is a five minute walk from Russell Square station.

Three wings and a row of Georgian houses

The hall grew in stages: the North Wing opened in 1963, the West Wing in 1968, and the Central Wing replaced an older block after a rebuild finished in 2003. Around them, some flats sit in converted terraced houses on Lansdowne Terrace and Guilford Street. Knowing which part you are in tells us whether we are working in a post-war block or carrying up a Georgian staircase.

With up to 850 residents the September arrival is one of the largest in the intercollegiate system, and the University runs it with staggered slots. Outside that weekend the side streets are quiet enough that a mid-term move is short.

When the room is a family flat

International Hall is one of very few places in central London where the University houses students with partners and children, and a family flat holds a cot, a pushchair, toys and a kitchen's worth of things on top of two people's books and clothes. That is priced like a small flat rather than a hall room, and it usually needs two people.

The end of the course is the other half of that. Families leaving often ship part of the flat home and take the rest to the airport, and we do both as one booking so the boxes going by sea and the cases going on the plane are packed and labelled apart from each other.

Worth knowing

  • Tell us the wing or house and floor, since some flats are up Georgian stairs
  • Say if you are moving a family flat rather than a single room, because it is a different size of job
  • Leave kitchen things at home if you have a catered single room
  • Split what is being shipped from what is flying with you before we arrive, not on the day
  • Pick your September slot early, because 850 residents arriving over a few days fills every slot

International Hall: common questions

How much does it cost to move into International Hall?

A single room is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220, covering the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge. A self-catered couple's or family flat is closer to a small flat move, and we price it from what is in it.

Can you park outside International Hall?

For a short stop, in a bay. Lansdowne Terrace and the streets round Brunswick Square are Camden controlled parking, and Guilford Street is a through route with buses, so we do not unload in the main road. On the September arrival weekend the University staggers arrivals, which is the easiest time to get close to the door.

Is International Hall catered?

The single study bedrooms are catered, with breakfast and dinner on weekdays and brunch at most weekends. Studios and flats for couples and families are self-catered, so those residents need a properly equipped kitchen.

Can you move a family flat out of International Hall?

Yes. A family flat usually needs two people and is priced like a small flat rather than a room. If part of it is being shipped abroad and part is going to the airport, we handle both in one booking and keep them separate.

Can you take us and our luggage to the airport?

Yes, £120 to £260 to Heathrow or Gatwick with cases and boxes, with the drive built into the figure. For a family with a pushchair and a car seat, tell us when you book so the van is the right size.
