Man and Van in Elephant and Castle
Covering SE1, SE17 in Southwark. New developments, estate blocks and student housing around the junction. Fixed price agreed before we start, with the parking, the lift and the access sorted in advance.
Elephant and Castle has been rebuilt around its junction over the last decade and the new blocks are among the easiest moves in south central London: purpose built loading bays, goods lifts, a concierge and a clear process. The Elephant Park development in particular is set up for this.
The surrounding estates and the older stock on Walworth Road are conventional. Lifts where the blocks are tall, stairs where they are not, and permit parking outside either way. The junction itself is the thing to plan around, because the traffic arrangements around it are not intuitive.
The buildings in Elephant and Castle
New-build apartment blocks with full service infrastructure make up a growing share. Post-war estate blocks with lifts account for much of the rest. Student accommodation near the university buildings operates on booked slots and restricted hours. The older terraces and flats above shops on Walworth Road have narrow stairs and no lift.
Parking, loading and access in Elephant and Castle
Elephant and Castle sits at the southern edge of the Congestion Charge zone, and whether an address is inside depends on which side of the boundary it falls. Newington Causeway, New Kent Road and Walworth Road carry restriction. Southwark controls the parking. New developments have booked loading bays with height limits. The remodelled junction has traffic arrangements that need checking rather than assuming, particularly for a larger vehicle.

Man and van in Elephant and Castle: common questions
How do loading bays work in the new blocks?
They are booked through the building, usually for a fixed slot of an hour or two, and there is a height limit at the entrance. Give us the building name and we will make the booking and bring a van that clears the restriction.
Am I inside the Congestion Charge zone here?
It depends on the address, because the zone boundary runs close to the junction. Send the postcode and we will confirm. Where it applies the charge is already in the price.
Do you do student moves at Elephant?
Yes. The student blocks here are busy at both changeovers and restrict moving to set hours over a few days. Give us the building and the date and we will work inside their window.
