Fitzrovia is a small grid with a lot going on in it. The blocks between Tottenham Court Road and Great Portland Street hold flats above restaurants, design studios on upper floors, and short lease offices that seem to change hands every eighteen months. Moving anything in or out means working around delivery vans that are already double parked.
We do a lot of two person jobs here: a studio flat coming down three floors with no lift, a set of desks and monitors going from one Charlotte Street building to another, a bed and a sofa arriving for a new tenancy. Small volume, awkward access, and a time window that matters because the street will not take a stationary van for long.
The buildings in Fitzrovia
Very little of Fitzrovia is purpose built residential. Most flats sit above ground floor commercial units, reached by a narrow shared staircase off the street with a turn at the top that will not take a three seater sofa flat. The Georgian houses around Fitzroy Square and Charlotte Street have the same problem in a prettier form. Newer blocks near Great Portland Street do have lifts, and those jobs run at half the pace.
Parking, loading and access in Fitzrovia
The whole area is inside the Congestion Charge zone. Tottenham Court Road, Euston Road and Great Portland Street are the boundaries and all carry heavy restriction, so we load from the quieter internal streets such as Cleveland Street, Goodge Place or Windmill Street. Westminster and Camden both cover parts of Fitzrovia, which means the bay rules can change from one end of a street to the other. We check which authority governs your address before quoting, since it changes what a suspension costs.

My flat is on the third floor with no lift. Does that cost more?
It changes the crew rather than the rate. A third floor walk-up with a normal flat's worth of furniture is a two person job where a ground floor flat might not be. Tell us the floor and whether the staircase turns, and the price you get already accounts for it.
Can you move a small office over a weekend?
Yes, and for Fitzrovia buildings it is usually the better option. Weekend loading on Charlotte Street and Goodge Street is far easier than a weekday, and most managed buildings will release the goods lift for longer. We need the building's access rules in advance so nothing stalls at the door.
Is Fitzrovia in the Congestion Charge zone?
Yes, all of it. Euston Road forms the northern boundary of the zone and Fitzrovia sits just inside. The charge is included in the price we quote.
