Old Street is where a lot of small companies move in, outgrow the space, and move again eighteen months later. The Silicon Roundabout name stuck for a reason, and that churn is most of our commercial work here: desks, monitors, server cabinets and the contents of a kitchen, going four streets over into a slightly bigger floor on Tabernacle Street or Paul Street.
The roundabout itself has been rebuilt, with the old gyratory replaced by two way roads and a new station entrance, and the approaches changed with it. Routes that worked before do not necessarily work now, so we check the current layout rather than trusting one from memory.
The buildings in Old Street
Warehouse conversions dominate the residential side, particularly on the Hackney streets south east of the roundabout such as Leonard Street, Paul Street and Tabernacle Street, with open floors, shared goods lifts and the slow loading that implies. Along City Road the newer towers, the Atlas Building among them, have concierge desks and booked service lifts, and the move itself is quick once the slot is confirmed. Above the commercial units on Old Street there are flats reached by narrow street door staircases. The older estate blocks around Bunhill Row and Whitecross Street have lifts and ordinary estate access, and co-working buildings have their own contractor rules.
Parking, loading and access in Old Street
The Congestion Charge boundary runs along City Road and Old Street themselves. Bath Street, Bunhill Row, Leonard Street and Tabernacle Street are inside the zone, while Hoxton and the streets north east of City Road towards Shepherdess Walk are outside it. Where the charge applies it is in the price, as is the ULEZ. Old Street and City Road are red routes. Islington covers the area west of the roundabout and Hackney the area east of it, so a move from Leonard Street to Bath Street can mean two councils and two sets of bay rules. Loading happens on the side streets such as Bath Street, Leonard Street and Tabernacle Street. Whitecross Street has a weekday lunchtime food market, which makes it a poor choice for loading in the middle of the day. Co-working and managed office buildings usually require a booked goods lift slot and proof of insurance.

We are outgrowing our floor. Can you move us at a weekend?
Yes, and around Old Street it usually works better. Weekday loading on the main roads is difficult and most managed buildings release the goods lift more readily at a weekend. Book earlier for weekend slots because there are fewer of them.
Our old office is in Hackney and the new one is in Islington. Does that complicate things?
Only in the paperwork. The two councils run separate parking and suspension systems, so a move from Leonard Street to Bath Street can need a bay arranged with each. We check both addresses when quoting and tell you whether a suspension is worth it at either end, and any suspension is passed on at cost.
Do you move IT equipment and server cabinets?
Yes. Monitors and machines travel wrapped and boxed rather than loose, and cabinets go on a proper trolley with the contents secured. We do not decommission or recable, so have your IT people handle the disconnection and reconnection at either end.
Does the Congestion Charge apply at my address?
The boundary follows City Road and Old Street, so most addresses south and west of them are inside the zone and the Hoxton side is outside. Send the postcode and we will confirm, and the charge is included in the quote where it applies.
