Covent Garden is the hardest square mile in central London to get a van near, and the reason is straightforward: a lot of it is pedestrianised, and the parts that are not fill with delivery traffic from early morning. Moving here is a scheduling problem before it is a lifting problem.
What we move is a mix. Flats above the shops on Monmouth Street and Neal Street, retail stock and fixtures during a unit changeover, and single pieces of furniture into apartments that a standard courier has already refused. All of it depends on hitting the access window rather than turning up when convenient.
The buildings in Covent Garden
Residential space here sits on upper floors above retail, reached by a narrow street door and a staircase that was never designed for furniture. Ceilings are low, the turns are tight, and a bed frame often has to come apart to get up them. The Seven Dials conversions are the same in miniature. There are a handful of newer apartments with lifts, and those are the exception rather than the pattern.
Parking, loading and access in Covent Garden
The Piazza and several surrounding streets are pedestrian zones with timed vehicle access, generally early morning and late evening only. Enforcement is active and the fines are not small. Long Acre and Shaftesbury Avenue carry heavy restriction. In practice we plan Covent Garden jobs around the access window, load quickly, and move the van out rather than leaving it standing. The area is inside the Congestion Charge zone. For anything above a small load we will agree the timing with you before booking rather than after.

Can a van actually get to my flat near the Piazza?
Usually yes, but only inside the timed access window, which is typically early morning or late evening depending on the street. That is why we agree the time before you book rather than after. If your address is inside a fully pedestrianised section we will load from the nearest accessible street and carry the rest.
My staircase is very narrow. Will my sofa fit?
Often not in one piece, and it is better to know that in advance. Measure the narrowest point of the stairs and the width of the sofa across its back, and send us both. If it will not go we can usually take the feet and back off, and if it still will not go we will tell you rather than damaging your wall finding out.
Do you move shop stock and fittings?
Yes. Retail changeovers in WC2 are a regular job for us. Rails, shelving, counters and stock all move fine, and the constraint is nearly always the access window rather than the volume.
