Student moves for SOAS

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

SOAS sits on Russell Square in the middle of Bloomsbury, which puts it inside the same Camden parking regime as UCL and Birkbeck and within walking distance of the intercollegiate halls. It also has one of the highest proportions of international students of any London institution, which changes what the June move looks like.

An international intake changes June

At most universities the end of term is a move into storage or into a shared flat. At SOAS a much larger share of it is a flight, which means cases and boxes to Heathrow or Gatwick rather than a van full of furniture.

That is £120 to £260 with the drive built in, and it is worth booking before exams rather than the night before the flight. The other half of the equation is what you cannot take, which is either storage until next year or a clearance.

Bloomsbury parking, same as its neighbours

Russell Square and the streets around it are Camden controlled parking with very few loading bays and permit-only squares. SOAS shares that constraint with UCL and Birkbeck, and the answer is the same: a legal stop nearby and a short carry, or a suspension for a job big enough to justify it.

Worth knowing

  • Book the airport run before exams start rather than the night before
  • If you are going home for the summer, price storage and the September return together
  • Give us the hall name, since the intercollegiate halls have their own arrival systems
  • Anything you are not taking is cheaper cleared than left for the hall to charge you for

SOAS: common questions

How much is a student move for SOAS?

A single room within London is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220. A run to Heathrow or Gatwick with cases and boxes is £120 to £260 with the drive included.

Do you do airport runs for international students?

A great many, and SOAS is one of the universities we do most of them for. Book before exams start: the week term ends, every flight out of London is carrying somebody from a Bloomsbury hall.

Can you store things between years?

We move a room into a storage facility in June and back out in September, £280 to £620 for both legs booked together. You pay the facility for the storage; we do not hold goods on our own premises.

Where are the SOAS halls?

Mostly Bloomsbury and out towards King's Cross, including Dinwiddy House, plus the University of London intercollegiate halls that SOAS students can live in. Garden Halls on Cartwright Gardens has its own page here.
