Clerkenwell is warehouses, and warehouses move differently to flats. The loft conversions off St John Street and Clerkenwell Road have wide open floors and enormous windows, which is excellent, and a single slow goods lift shared with the whole building, which is not. The lift is almost always what sets the timetable.

Converted industrial and warehouse buildings define the area: exposed brick, high ceilings, large open floors and a shared goods lift that was installed for the conversion rather than designed for it. The older stock around Clerkenwell Green and Amwell Street is Georgian terrace, narrow and vertical. Newer apartment blocks along Goswell Road have conventional lifts and better access.
Parking, loading and access in Clerkenwell
Clerkenwell sits inside the Congestion Charge zone. Clerkenwell Road, Farringdon Road and Goswell Road are the main routes and all carry restriction. Islington controls the parking and the smaller streets such as St John Street, St John's Square and Bowling Green Lane are tight, with limited bays. Warehouse buildings usually have a service door but not always a bay, so we load from the street and use the goods lift. Where the lift is small the job takes longer and we price the time honestly rather than optimistically.

The goods lift in my building is tiny. How does that work?
Slowly, which is why we ask about it up front. A small shared lift means more trips and often means taking larger furniture apart. Send us the internal dimensions if you have them, or a photo of the lift, and the time we allow will be realistic rather than hopeful.
Can you move a design studio with plan chests and samples?
Yes, and it is a regular job in EC1. Plan chests are heavy and awkward and are best moved with the drawers out and secured separately. Sample libraries need proper crating rather than loose stacking. Tell us what you have and we will bring the right kit.
Is Clerkenwell inside the Congestion Charge zone?
Yes. EC1 sits inside the zone and the charge is already included in the price we quote. There is no separate line added later.
