The domed Angel building on the corner of Islington High Street, a short walk from the City campus at Northampton Square.

Student moves for City, University of London

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

City sits on Northampton Square in Clerkenwell, which is a Georgian square in the middle of one of the tightest street networks in London. The halls scatter north and east into Islington and Shoreditch. Nothing about a City move is far, and very little of it is straightforward to park for.

Clerkenwell streets are the constraint

The grid around Northampton Square is narrow, one-way in places, and busy with the trades and studios that fill this part of Islington. It is Islington controlled parking throughout with few loading bays.

For a single room this is a short carry rather than a problem. For a full flat move it is the reason we ask for the exact address early enough to apply for a suspension if one is worth having.

Halls towards Angel and Shoreditch

Most City accommodation sits north towards Angel or east towards Shoreditch, both of which have their own area pages here with the parking detail on them.

The useful thing to know is that the Shoreditch end is the harder of the two: converted warehouses, retrofitted goods lifts, and streets that were laid out for horses.

Worth knowing

  • Give the exact hall address, because Islington and Shoreditch are very different to load at
  • Northampton Square itself is permit parking, so expect a stop on a nearby street
  • A converted warehouse hall in Shoreditch is a slower job than a purpose built one
  • The spring term is the cheapest time to move if your dates are flexible

City, University of London: common questions

How much is a student move for City?

A single room within London is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220, covering the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge.

Can you park at Northampton Square?

Not on the square itself, which is permit parking. The streets around it are Islington controlled parking with few loading bays, so we plan a legal stop nearby and carry. For a single room that is a few minutes.

Where are the City halls?

Mostly north towards Angel and east towards Shoreditch. Both have area pages here covering the parking and the buildings. Shoreditch is the harder of the two because of the converted warehouses and their retrofitted lifts.

Is Clerkenwell difficult for a van?

Narrow and one-way in places rather than impossible. It is fine for a single room and worth planning properly for a full flat, which is when a bay suspension starts to be worth its cost.
