Man and Van in Notting Hill
Covering W11, W2 in Kensington and Chelsea. Pastel terraces, communal garden squares and Portobello market streets. Fixed price agreed before we start, with the parking, the lift and the access sorted in advance.
Two things dictate the calendar in Notting Hill. Portobello Road market runs several days a week and closes streets to through traffic, and Carnival takes the August bank holiday weekend out entirely. Booking a move without checking either is how people end up with a van that cannot reach the door.
Beyond that it is a straightforward residential area to work in. Flats in the pastel terraces off Ledbury Road, family houses on the communal garden streets, and a steady stream of furniture bought and sold locally that needs collecting on a Saturday.
The buildings in Notting Hill
Tall stucco and brick terraces, most divided into flats, with a raised ground floor and steps up from the pavement. The communal garden streets around Lansdowne Road and Elgin Crescent have the same pattern in a larger form. Basement and lower ground flats are common and have their own steps down. Very few lifts anywhere in W11.
Parking, loading and access in Notting Hill
Notting Hill is outside the Congestion Charge zone. Portobello Road is closed or restricted on market days, and the surrounding streets fill with market traffic, so we schedule around it. Kensington and Chelsea controls the parking. Ladbroke Grove and Holland Park Avenue carry restrictions. During Carnival weekend a large part of W11 is inaccessible to vehicles and we do not book moves into it.

Man and van in Notting Hill: common questions
Can you move on a Portobello market day?
On the surrounding streets yes, on Portobello Road itself no. The market closes it to through traffic and the neighbouring streets get congested with market vehicles. If your address is on or immediately off Portobello Road we will suggest a different day or an early start before the stalls go up.
What about Carnival weekend?
We do not book moves inside the Carnival footprint over the August bank holiday. Roads are closed, the crowds make loading impossible and nothing runs to time. If you are moving that weekend we will do it before or after, and it is worth booking early because everyone else has the same idea.
Do you collect furniture bought locally?
Yes, regularly. Single item collections from Portobello and the local shops and marketplaces are a common job. Send the item dimensions and both addresses and we will price it as a one-off rather than a half day.
