Man and Van in Holborn

Covering WC1V, WC2A, WC2B, EC1N in Camden and City of London. Chambers, legal offices and upper floor flats around Chancery Lane. Fixed price agreed before we start, with the parking, the lift and the access sorted in advance.

Holborn is more office than home, and the work reflects that. Sets of chambers move between buildings around Gray's Inn and Lincoln's Inn, solicitors shed filing rooms, and small firms take space on High Holborn and then outgrow it. Paper is heavy and boxes of it break cheap crates, which is worth knowing before anyone starts packing.

The residential side is smaller but real: flats above the shops on Red Lion Street, conversions off Theobalds Road, and the newer blocks towards Farringdon. Those jobs are ordinary flat moves with an unusually difficult loading situation attached.

The buildings in Holborn

Where there are flats they are typically upper floors of commercial buildings, reached from a street door and a single narrow staircase. The Inns of Court themselves hold residential sets behind gated entrances with strict vehicle access rules. Newer developments near Chancery Lane station have proper lifts and loading bays, and those are the easiest jobs in the area by a wide margin.

Parking, loading and access in Holborn

High Holborn, Theobalds Road and Kingsway are red routes with no stopping, which rules out the obvious frontages. Loading happens on the side streets: Red Lion Street, Bedford Row, Hatton Garden and the smaller turnings off Chancery Lane. The Inns of Court control their own gates and will want the vehicle registration in advance. The whole area is inside the Congestion Charge zone. For office moves we generally recommend an early morning or weekend slot, when the surrounding streets are actually usable.

Man and van in Holborn: common questions

Can you move a set of chambers or a solicitors' office?

Yes. The two things that decide how it goes are the building's access rules and the volume of paper. Deed boxes and archive files are far heavier than they look, so we crate and stack them properly rather than overloading a trolley. We will walk the route with you beforehand if the job is large enough to warrant it.

Can you get a van inside Gray's Inn or Lincoln's Inn?

Usually, but only with prior arrangement. The Inns operate their own gates and control which vehicles come in and when. They will normally want the registration and an approximate time. Give us the contact at your building and we will make the arrangement ourselves.

Do you work evenings and weekends for office moves?

Yes, and in Holborn it is usually the sensible choice. High Holborn and Kingsway are unworkable at midday, whereas a Saturday morning is straightforward. Out of hours slots need booking further ahead because there are fewer of them.
