Museum traffic, not residential traffic
Exhibition Road and the streets off it work around the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the V and A and the Royal Albert Hall. That means crowds from mid-morning, coach drop-offs, and event closures in the evening that have nothing to do with anybody living there.
The practical answer on this campus is almost always to move in the morning. It is the one part of central London where an evening slot is worse than a rush hour one.
Kensington and Chelsea parking
Free bays in this borough are scarce during the working day and a suspension costs £45 to £120 a day with several working days of notice. For a single hall room that is rarely worth it and we plan a legal stop instead.
For a bigger move out of a shared flat in SW7 it often is worth it, and we will say so at the quote stage rather than discovering the problem on the morning.
Worth knowing
- Move in the morning here, because the museums and the Royal Albert Hall own the afternoon and evening
- Check for a Royal Albert Hall event before booking an evening slot
- Give us the hall name: Beit is a 1908 building and the newer halls are not
- For a flat move rather than a hall room, ask about a suspension early
Imperial College London: common questions
How much is a student move for Imperial?
A single room within London is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220. South Kensington sits outside the Congestion Charge zone, which does not change the figure because the charge was inside it anyway.
Why do you prefer morning slots in South Kensington?
Because the area runs on museum and concert traffic rather than residential traffic. From mid-morning the pavements fill, and on an event evening the roads around the Royal Albert Hall close or crawl. Eight in the morning is a different place entirely.
Is Beit Hall different from the other Imperial halls?
Considerably. It opened in 1908, so the doorways are narrower, the corridors turn and the lift provision is not what a modern building has. It has its own page here. The newer halls are ordinary modern buildings by comparison.
Do I need a parking suspension?
For a single hall room, usually not: we plan a legal stop and carry. For a move out of a shared flat in SW7 it is often worth the £45 to £120 a day, and Kensington and Chelsea want several working days of notice, so ask early.
