Man and Van in Wapping: Warehouse Flat Removals

Covering E1W in Tower Hamlets. Riverside warehouse conversions, gated developments and new blocks at London Dock. Fixed price agreed before we start, with the parking, the lift and the access sorted in advance.

Wapping is a riverside of converted warehouses, and most moves here start or finish in one. Along Wapping High Street and Wapping Wall the old warehouses were turned into flats from the 1970s onwards, Oliver's Wharf among the first, and they still define what a Wapping move involves: a gated courtyard, a shared goods lift of uncertain size, and a street that was built for carts.

Inland, the 1980s Docklands housing around the old dock basins and the newer London Dock development off Pennington Street give a different kind of job: modern flats and houses with parking courts and, in the new blocks, concierge desks and booked lifts. We cover Wapping as a neighbour of the City and Aldgate, with the same fixed price approach.

The buildings in Wapping

Warehouse conversions are the signature, Oliver's Wharf, Gun Wharf, New Crane Wharf and Metropolitan Wharf among them, with deep floor plans, big windows and goods lifts that range from generous to barely usable. Some flats are split over two levels with open internal stairs, which limits what can reach the upper rooms. The 1980s developments inland are brick houses and low-rise flats around shared courtyards, straightforward once the van is inside the gate. The London Dock blocks have loading bays, service lifts and management rules, and the older council blocks around Wapping Lane have ordinary lift access.

Parking, loading and access in Wapping

Wapping is outside the Congestion Charge zone, which stops at Tower Hill, and the ULEZ applies here as across London; where either applies to the route it is in the price. Tower Hamlets controls the parking and many streets are permit only. Wapping High Street is long and narrow, with warehouse frontages right on the pavement, so a stopped van blocks it and we either work quickly or load inside a courtyard where the building allows it. The Highway, to the north, is a red route. Several of the warehouse developments sit behind electronic gates with their own rules for contractors, so we arrange access with the managing agent before the day.

Man and van in Wapping: common questions

Can the van stop outside my warehouse on Wapping High Street?

Briefly, and not for long. The street is narrow and a parked van blocks it. Where the building has a courtyard or a loading area behind the gate we use that; where it does not, we stage the load inside and keep the van's time on the street short. Tell us the building and we will check which applies.

Our goods lift is small. What will not fit?

Usually the sofa, the bed base and anything long, such as a dining table or a wardrobe that does not come apart. Those go by the stairs. Send us the lift's internal dimensions or a photo and we will plan the route for each large piece before the day.

Is Wapping in the Congestion Charge zone?

No. The zone boundary is at Tower Hill, west of Wapping. A move into the City picks up the charge for that leg, and it is included in our price.
