Man and Van in Angel
Covering N1 in Islington. Georgian terraces, canal-side conversions and flats off Upper Street. Fixed price agreed before we start, with the parking, the lift and the access sorted in advance.
Angel is one of the busiest residential moving markets in inner London. The Georgian terraces off Upper Street are almost all converted, tenancies turn over steadily, and there is a constant flow of people moving in from further out and further in.
The terraces are the challenge. They are handsome and they are narrow, with a staircase that turns at every landing and a raised ground floor reached by steps from the pavement. A three seater sofa going to the second floor of a Cross Street conversion is a genuine piece of work.
The buildings in Angel
Georgian and early Victorian terraces converted into flats dominate, typically three or four storeys over a lower ground floor. The staircases are original, narrow, and turn tightly. There are canal-side warehouse conversions near City Road Basin with better access and lifts, and post-war estate blocks scattered through N1 that are straightforward by comparison.
Parking, loading and access in Angel
Angel sits just outside the Congestion Charge zone, with the boundary running to the south, which makes it cheaper to move to and from than City or Clerkenwell addresses. Upper Street, City Road and Pentonville Road are red routes or heavily restricted. Islington controls the parking and the residential bays are permit-dominated on weekdays. We load from the side streets such as Cross Street, Duncan Terrace or Colebrooke Row, and a suspension is worth having for a full flat move.

Man and van in Angel: common questions
Will my sofa get up a Georgian staircase?
Sometimes not in one piece. The half landing turn on an Angel terrace is the usual obstacle. Measure the sofa across its widest point and the narrowest part of the stairs, send us both, and we will tell you honestly before the day whether it goes up whole, comes apart, or does not go at all.
Is Angel in the Congestion Charge zone?
No. The zone boundary runs south of Angel along Pentonville Road and City Road, so N1 addresses here sit outside it. If your move ends inside the zone the charge applies to that leg and is included in our price.
How much notice for an Islington bay suspension?
Several working days at minimum and longer in busy periods. For a weekend move ask us a couple of weeks ahead. We make the application, but the lead time is set by the council rather than by us.
