Moving in and out of Max Rayne House

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

Max Rayne House is mainly a postgraduate hall, and that changes the move more than the building does. Most people living here are on a one-year master's course, a good share of them have flown in with everything they own in two suitcases, and the June move out is often the last thing they do in the country before a flight home.

Loading and parking

Max Rayne House shares the 109 Camden Road site with Ifor Evans Hall and three other UCL buildings, and UCL directs arrivals to enter the site from Camden Road to unload rather than stopping on the main road outside. Check-in is at the shared reception at 109 Camden Road. The site is set in grounds, so the carry from the van depends on which block you are in, and UCL notes that the lifts on the site do not serve every floor.

A postgraduate move is a different shape

An undergraduate arriving at a UCL hall usually comes with a parent, a car and a year of accumulated belongings from home. A postgraduate at Max Rayne is more often arriving from Heathrow with cases, buying bedding and a desk lamp in the first week, and then leaving in a year with far more than they came with.

That makes the airport run the most common booking we get from this building, in both directions. With cases and boxes, Heathrow or Gatwick to Camden Road is £120 to £260, and we build the drive time into the figure rather than adding it afterwards.

Leaving after one year

A one-year stay means the June or summer move out is final: nothing is coming back in September, so the choice is between shipping it, storing it for someone to collect, or clearing it. The things people struggle with are the ones bought locally, such as a desk chair, a monitor and a winter coat, which are too bulky for a flight and too useful to throw away.

We clear what is not going with you and take reusable items to charity or reuse networks where we can place them, with a waste transfer note for the rest. It is cheaper than leaving it in the kitchen for the hall to charge you for.

Worth knowing

  • Book the airport run for arrival day before you fly, not from the arrivals hall
  • Enter the site from Camden Road to unload, as UCL directs
  • Check in at the 109 Camden Road reception, shared with the other buildings on the site
  • Decide in May what is being shipped, stored or cleared, because nothing comes back in September
  • Say whether you are in the one-bedroom flat, which is a bigger job than a single room

Max Rayne House: common questions

How much does it cost to move into Max Rayne House?

A single room is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220. For most people here the more useful figure is the airport run: Heathrow or Gatwick to Camden Road with cases and boxes is £120 to £260, with the drive built in.

Can you park outside Max Rayne House?

Not on Camden Road, which is a busy main road. UCL directs arrivals to enter the site from Camden Road to unload, so the van goes onto the site rather than stopping outside it. We confirm the arrangement with reception before any move outside the arrival weekend.

Is Max Rayne House for postgraduates?

UCL uses the self-catered buildings on the 109 Camden Road site mainly for postgraduates, but your offer letter is what counts, so check it. Max Rayne is self-catered and mostly single rooms, on the same site as the catered undergraduate hall at Ifor Evans.

What do I do with everything at the end of a one-year course?

Ship it, store it or clear it. We handle the storage run and the clearance, and a room clearance is £120 to £280 with a waste transfer note, with usable items going to charity where we can place them.

Can you collect me from the airport when I arrive?

Yes, as a van with the cases rather than as a taxi. Book it before you fly with your flight number, and allow for the reception at 109 Camden Road being where you check in first.
