Moving in and out of Beit Hall

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

Beit Hall opened in 1908 and sits on Prince Consort Road with the Royal Albert Hall on one side and Hyde Park beyond it. That is a fine place to live and a constrained place to bring a van: the roads around it are museum and concert traffic, the building is old, and the staircases are the staircases of 1908.

Loading and parking

Prince Consort Road is Kensington and Chelsea controlled parking with very few free bays, and the whole area works around the museums and the Royal Albert Hall rather than around residents. On a concert night the roads nearby are closed or crawling, which is worth checking before choosing an evening slot. The building dates from 1908, so expect a staircase rather than a generous lift in parts of it, and expect the room door to be narrower than a modern one.

A 1908 building, and what that means carrying a box

Beit is handsome and it is not a modern hall. Doorways are narrower, corridors turn, and the lift provision is not what a building put up this decade would have. None of that matters much for a single room of belongings and all of it matters if you have brought a full-size chest of drawers.

The practical version: pack in bags and medium boxes rather than a few enormous ones. A box you can carry up a turning staircase on your own is worth two you cannot.

The Royal Albert Hall problem

Prince Consort Road is next door to a venue with a nightly audience. On event evenings the surrounding roads fill, some are closed, and a van trying to unload is in everyone's way including its own.

We check the listings before agreeing an evening slot here, which is not something we need to do anywhere else on this site. Mornings are almost always the better answer.

Worth knowing

  • Pack into medium boxes and bags rather than a few large ones, for the staircases
  • Avoid an evening slot on a Royal Albert Hall event night
  • Give us the room number and floor, since the lift does not serve everything equally
  • Book the June move early, because Imperial contracts end within days of each other
  • Say if you are in a twin, because two people moving out of one room is two lots of belongings

Beit Hall: common questions

How much does it cost to move into Beit Hall?

A single room is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220. That covers the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge. South Kensington sits outside the Congestion Charge zone at this address, which does not change the figure because it was inside it either way.

Is parking difficult on Prince Consort Road?

Yes. Kensington and Chelsea controlled parking with very few free bays, and an area that works around the museums and the Royal Albert Hall. We plan the stop before the day rather than looking for one on arrival, and on a concert evening we would rather move you in the morning.

Does Beit Hall have lifts?

Not everywhere, and not as a modern building would. It opened in 1908. Tell us your floor and room number when you book so we bring the right number of people, and pack into medium boxes rather than a few large ones.

Can you store my things over the summer?

We move them into a storage facility in June and back out in September, £280 to £620 for both legs booked together. You pay the facility for the storage itself; we do not hold goods on our own premises.
