Moving in and out of Eastside Halls

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

Eastside is three adjoining halls, Gabor, Linstead and Wilkinson, built on the east side of Prince's Gardens and opened in 2009, with around 454 bed spaces between them and the main South Kensington campus a couple of minutes' walk away. Unlike Beit Hall a short walk north, this is a modern building with lifts to every floor, so the carrying is easy and the thinking goes into getting a van to the door.

Loading and parking

Prince's Gardens is a garden square just off Exhibition Road, and the halls on it sit inside Imperial's own estate rather than on an ordinary street, so vehicle access close to the doors is controlled by the college and the September arrival arrangements come from Imperial. The public roads around it are controlled parking with few free bays, and Exhibition Road itself is a shared surface full of museum visitors from mid-morning. Inside, every floor is served by a lift, which is the main practical difference from Beit.

Three halls, one set of doors to find

Gabor, Linstead and Wilkinson share one complex but each has its own entrance and its own floors, and a box delivered to the wrong one is a walk round the square with it. Give us the hall name as well as the room number, since "Eastside, room 312" can mean three different rooms.

The kitchen arrangement varies by floor. Levels one to four have the most bedrooms and kitchens shared by more than twenty people, while the upper and lower levels share between seven and a dozen, and that difference is worth knowing before you decide how much kitchen equipment to bring.

Twins, and the museum crowds

A good share of Eastside is twin rooms, so a single booking can easily be two people moving out of one room with two sets of belongings, two duvets and two lots of books. Tell us if that is the case and whether you want both moved together, which is usually cheaper than two separate trips.

Exhibition Road carries the crowds for the Science, Natural History and V&A museums from mid-morning, and school holidays make it worse. An early start is the simple answer here, both for the arrival in September and for the move out in June.

Worth knowing

  • Give the hall name, Gabor, Linstead or Wilkinson, as well as the room number
  • Start early, before Exhibition Road fills with museum visitors
  • If you share a twin, say whether both of you are moving on the same day
  • Check which floor you are on before buying kitchen kit, because shared kitchens range from seven people to over twenty
  • Book the June move before exams, when Eastside and Southside empty at the same time

Eastside Halls: common questions

How much does it cost to move into Eastside Halls?

A single room is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220, covering the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge. A twin with two people moving at once is quoted as two rooms but in one trip.

Can you park outside Eastside Halls?

Not on the square without the college's say-so. Eastside sits inside Imperial's estate on Prince's Gardens, and in September Imperial sets the arrival arrangements. At other times we use the nearest legal place to load on the controlled streets nearby and carry, which with lifts to every floor is quick.

Does Eastside have lifts?

Yes, Imperial states that every floor is reachable by lift. It opened in 2009, so the doors, corridors and lifts are those of a modern building, which makes it one of the easier Imperial halls to carry into.

Is Eastside catered?

No, it is self-catered with a shared kitchen on each floor. Depending on the floor that kitchen is shared by anything from seven to more than twenty people, so agree with your floor what is worth bringing.

Can you store my room over the summer?

Yes. We move it to a storage facility in June and back out in September, £280 to £620 for both legs booked together. You pay the facility for the space; we do not keep goods on our own premises.
