Loading and unloading
Loading in Vauxhall
Vauxhall splits sharply. The Nine Elms and Embassy Gardens towers have underground loading bays with a height restriction, goods lifts that need booking with the concierge, and a security desk the crew signs in at. Book the slot as soon as you have a date and the move is easy. Turn up without one and you will not get in. The older streets towards Kennington and around Vauxhall Cross are Lambeth controlled parking with Victorian terraces, ex-council blocks and very little free bay space during the day. The gyratory itself is not a loading position under any circumstances.

Brixton is mixed and mostly manageable. The Victorian terraces around Brixton Hill, Josephine Avenue and towards Herne Hill have resident bays and predictable staircases with a half landing turn. The ex-council blocks around Loughborough Junction and Angell Town have parking with a courtyard carry and lifts that do not always reach the top floors. Brixton town centre itself, around the market, Electric Avenue and Atlantic Road, is busy from mid morning, pedestrianised in stretches and a poor place to bring a van after about eleven. Lambeth runs the suspension process at both ends of this route.
The journey
South Lambeth Road into Brixton Road, the A203, straight through Stockwell. Two miles, fifteen minutes when it moves and thirty five when it does not, with the worst of it at the Stockwell junction and the approach to Brixton itself.
There is no useful alternative for a van at this distance. We plan the timing around the Brixton end rather than the route, which means an early start where the destination is anywhere near the market.
Getting out of a Nine Elms tower
These buildings are excellent to move out of and only if you book. The loading bay is allocated in slots, the goods lift needs reserving with the concierge, and the managing agent will usually want a copy of our public liability and goods in transit certificates before the day. We send those directly as soon as the date is agreed.
The one thing to check yourself is the height limit on the underground bay. Several of them will not take a Luton, which means a transit and a second run. We ask when you give us the address and quote it that way from the start.
Brixton timing
The town centre streets fill up from mid morning and stay busy late. If your new address is off Electric Avenue, Atlantic Road or within a couple of streets of the market, the difference between a nine o'clock unload and a one o'clock unload is substantial.
Further out, up Brixton Hill or towards Herne Hill, it barely matters and a normal start is fine. Give us the address and we will tell you which of those you are rather than applying the same advice to the whole of SW2.

Four to five hours for a one bedroom, most of a day for a two or three bedroom. On a two mile route the number of runs matters more than the driving, which is why the vehicle the tower bay allows is worth establishing early.
