Loading in Borough
Borough is Southwark controlled parking throughout and the streets near the market are busy from early. Borough High Street itself is too busy to load from during the day, and the roads around the market fill with deliveries and pedestrians. The conversions off Union Street, Great Suffolk Street and towards Tabard Street have tight staircases and usually no lift. The newer blocks around Bankside and Elephant have lifts and loading areas and are far easier. Where the street has no free bay we apply to Southwark for a suspension, which wants several working days.

Peckham is easier than Borough at most addresses. The Victorian terraces around Bellenden Road, Choumert Road and up towards Nunhead have resident bays and reasonable frontage, and the staircases are ordinary. The ex-council blocks off Peckham Road and around the North Peckham area have parking but often a long carry across a courtyard or podium to the entrance, sometimes with a lift and sometimes without above the fourth floor. Rye Lane itself is a poor place to load: it is busy, it is narrow in stretches, and it has a bus lane. Southwark handles the suspension process at this end too, which means one application for the whole move.
The journey
Two sensible lines. The Old Kent Road then across, which is fast when it is moving and badly congested when it is not, or through Camberwell on the A202 which is slower on paper and steadier in practice.
Three miles either way. We take the Camberwell route more often than not because the timing is more predictable, and predictability is worth more than speed on a job where the van is making two runs.
One borough at both ends
Both Borough and Peckham are Southwark, which is genuinely useful. Where a suspended bay is worth having we make one application, to one authority, at one rate, with one lead time. On a move that crosses a boundary we would be running two processes that do not talk to each other.
Southwark charges in the usual £45 to £120 a day range and wants several working days notice. We apply on your behalf and pass the cost through at what they charged, shown as its own line in the quote.
Which Peckham you are moving to
The gap between the two versions of a Peckham address is wider than the gap between Borough and Peckham. A terrace on Choumert Road with a bay outside is the bottom of the band. A fourth floor in a block off Peckham Road with a hundred metre carry from the car park and no lift is the top of it, for identical furniture.
This is why we ask for the address rather than the postcode. SE15 covers both of those and quoting from the postcode alone would mean guessing which one you are.

Can you unload on Rye Lane?
We would rather not. It is narrow in places, busy all day and has a bus lane. Where your entrance is on Rye Lane we plan a carry from a side street or apply for a suspension, and we would want to know at the quote stage rather than on the day.
How long does the move take?
Four to five hours for a one bedroom, most of a day for a two or three bedroom. The drive is fifteen to thirty five minutes each way depending on whether we take the Old Kent Road or go through Camberwell.
Is this cheaper than moving within Zone 1?
Usually a little, because the Peckham end is more likely to have somewhere legal to park and less likely to need a suspension. The saving comes from the parking rather than from the distance.
