Loading and parking
Rosebery Avenue is a wide road carrying several bus routes between Angel and Clerkenwell, Islington controlled parking, and the kerb outside the hall is largely bus stops and restricted lines rather than somewhere to wait. LSE notes that parking is very limited, with a small number of pay and display bays nearby. The quieter side streets towards Exmouth Market are the usual place to stop and carry from. The hall has lifts, and on the September arrival weekend LSE's timed slots decide when you unload.
More on Clerkenwell parking and access →Two wings, one entrance to plan around
Rooms at Rosebery are split between the Rosebery and Myddelton wings, and LSE lists singles, large singles, twins with a shared bathroom and twins with their own. Knowing which wing and floor you are in before the day lets the crew take the shortest route through the building rather than finding it with a trolley full of boxes.
At around 339 places, arrival weekend here is busy without being the crush of Bankside, and the timed slots keep the pavement manageable as long as people arrive in them.
Clerkenwell in June
Rosebery contracts run 38 weeks and end within days of the other LSE halls, so the June week has a good share of the building leaving at once. Many residents are flying home, and from here the run to Heathrow or Gatwick crosses the whole of central London, which is exactly why the figure has time built into it.
Anyone staying in London for another year is usually moving to a flat in Islington or Hackney, which is a short run from Rosebery Avenue and the cheapest end of the room move band.
Worth knowing
- Tell us whether you are in the Rosebery or Myddelton wing, and which floor
- Expect to unload from a side street rather than from Rosebery Avenue itself
- Leave pans at home, because the hall is catered
- Book the airport run before exams, because the flight date does not move
- If you are moving to a flat nearby, say so: a short run costs less
Rosebery Hall: common questions
How much does it cost to move into Rosebery Hall?
A single room is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220, covering the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge. A run to Heathrow or Gatwick at the end of the year is £120 to £260.
Can you park outside Rosebery Hall?
Rarely for long. Rosebery Avenue is an Islington controlled parking road with bus routes and stops along it, and LSE itself describes parking as very limited. We stop where loading is allowed or on a side street towards Exmouth Market and carry, and on the arrival weekend we work to your LSE slot.
Is Rosebery Hall catered?
Yes. Rent includes six dinners and one brunch a week during term, so kitchen equipment is not needed and is the most common thing people bring and take home again unused.
Does Rosebery Hall have lifts?
Yes, LSE lists lift access. The building is split into the Rosebery and Myddelton wings, so tell us your wing and floor when you book and the crew will go straight there.
Can you take my things to the airport at the end of term?
Yes, £120 to £260 to Heathrow or Gatwick with the drive built into the figure. From Clerkenwell that is a crossing of central London either way, so book a time that leaves room for traffic rather than one that assumes an empty road.
