The Georgian brick crescent of Cartwright Gardens in Bloomsbury, with plane trees and railings along the pavement, a few minutes on foot from Passfield Hall.

Moving in and out of Passfield Hall

from £120

Every figure includes VAT.

Passfield Hall is a row of Georgian houses on Endsleigh Place, a short street between Gordon Square and Euston Road, and the building still behaves like one. LSE is clear that the lift in the main building only goes as far as the second floor, so anyone above that carries their belongings up a terraced house staircase, and that single fact shapes a move here more than the parking does.

Loading and parking

Endsleigh Place is a short residential street in the Bloomsbury conservation area, Camden controlled parking, with no loading bay at the hall and very little kerb that is not already taken by permit holders. LSE itself describes parking as severely limited. Traffic is light compared with Euston Road a block north, so a brief stop to unload is usually possible early in the day. The harder part is inside: the main building lift reaches the second floor only, and above that the stairs are those of a Georgian terrace, narrow and turning.

The lift stops at the second floor

Passfield is converted terraced housing rather than a purpose-built block, and LSE lists lift access in the main building up to the second floor only. A room on the third floor or above is a staircase move, and the staircases were built for a household rather than for 227 residents arriving on the same weekend.

Pack for that. Bags and medium boxes that one person can carry up a turning flight are worth far more than a few large ones, and a full-size trunk is a two person lift up stairs where two people cannot comfortably pass.

Twins and triples double the belongings

A large share of Passfield is shared rooms: LSE lists around 80 twin places and 42 in triples, alongside the singles. Three people moving into one room means three sets of belongings arriving at one door, and three people agreeing on who brings the rug and who brings the lamp.

If you share, booking the room as one move is cheaper than three separate vans. It also matters in June, because the end of a shared contract is everyone leaving on the same morning, and the stairs are the same stairs going down.

Worth knowing

  • Tell us your floor, because above the second floor there is no lift
  • Pack into bags and medium boxes that one person can carry up a narrow staircase
  • If you share a twin or a triple, book one move for the whole room
  • Do not bring a kitchen to a catered hall
  • Check your contract end date: LSE lists 31 weeks here, shorter than the larger halls

Passfield Hall: common questions

How much does it cost to move into Passfield Hall?

A single room is £150 to £340 including VAT, most around £220, covering the crew, the van, the wrapping, the fuel and the Congestion Charge. A room on an upper floor above the lift, or a shared room booked as one job, sits towards the top of that band.

Can you park outside Passfield Hall?

Briefly, and early is best. Endsleigh Place is a quiet Camden controlled parking street with no loading bay, and LSE itself says parking is severely limited. We unload where the markings allow and move on, rather than leaving the van in a permit bay.

Does Passfield Hall have a lift?

Partly. LSE lists lift access in the main building up to the second floor only. Above that it is the original Georgian staircase, so tell us your floor when you book and pack in loads one person can carry.

Is Passfield Hall catered?

Yes, with six dinners and one brunch a week during term. Kitchen equipment is weight you carry up the stairs in September and down them again at the end of the year.

Can you store my things over the summer?

We move them into a storage facility at the end of your contract and back out in September, £280 to £620 for both legs booked together. You pay the facility for the storage itself; we do not hold goods on our own premises.
