Sizes and weights
Typical ranges for what we actually meet in Central London rather than one manufacturer's specification. Measure yours before you rely on them.

For reference, a standard UK internal door is 762mm. Older Central London stock is often narrower. Full door and van measurements.
Will it fit?
Will a treadmill fit through a door?
Folded, usually. Most treadmills fold the deck up against the console, which turns a 200cm object into something around 100 x 90cm, and that clears a 762mm door on its side. Unfolded it will not turn a corner in a hallway, so folding it is not optional.
Does a power rack come apart?
Always, and it is designed to. It bolts together from uprights and crossmembers, and a 200kg rack becomes a set of 15 to 30kg steel sections. That takes it from an impossible object to a manageable one, and reassembling it is straightforward if the bolts stayed in order.
What about the plates?
Plates do not fit anything, they just weigh a lot. Two hundred kilos is ten 20kg plates, and they are carried in twos or threes, which is five or six trips. On a fourth floor walk-up that is the entire job and it is why we ask for the total weight rather than the number of items.
Will the floor take it?
Worth asking above the ground floor. A rack plus 200kg of plates is a substantial point load on a suspended timber floor, and dropping a deadlift on it is a different question again. We will flag it; whether you want to lift there is your decision and your neighbours'.
How we move gym equipment
- We ask for the total plate weight as well as the equipment list, because it usually dominates
- Treadmill decks are folded and locked, and the console is protected separately
- Racks and multigyms come apart into sections, with bolts bagged and labelled
- Plates go into the van first, low and against the bulkhead, because they set the load
- Two crew minimum, three where there is a staircase and a real plate count
- Equipment is reassembled at the other end and checked before we leave
The plate arithmetic nobody does
A modest home setup is a bar, a pair of 20s, a pair of 15s, a pair of 10s, a pair of 5s and some change: about 130kg. A serious one runs to 300kg or more. Carried at 40kg a trip, that is between three and eight round trips on top of everything else.
On a ground floor with the van outside it is twenty minutes. On a third floor walk-up it is over an hour of climbing, and it is the reason two gym moves with identical equipment lists can be a hundred pounds apart.
Peloton, Concept2 and the rest
Connected bikes and rowers are the most common single item on this page now. A Peloton is around 60kg and moves in one piece with two people; the screen is the fragile part and it comes off on most models. A Concept2 rower splits into two halves in seconds without tools.
Both are straightforward and both are worth mentioning at the quote stage rather than being described as an exercise bike, because a 60kg machine with a screen bolted to it and a 15kg spin bike are different carries.
Before we arrive
- Count the plates and add up the weight, then tell us the total
- Find the allen keys and spanners that came with the rack, which speeds up both ends
- Unplug and coil the treadmill cable, and know where the fold lock is
- Clear a route wide enough for someone carrying 40kg who cannot see their feet
- Decide where it is going, because a rack once built is not something you nudge across a room
What tends to go wrong
Forgetting to count the plates
The single most common way a gym move is underquoted. People list a rack, a bench and a treadmill, and omit 250kg of cast iron sitting quietly in the corner. Give us the number and we will size the crew for it.
Moving a treadmill without folding it
Unfolded it is a two metre object with a heavy motor at one end and it will not turn in a hallway. The fold takes a moment and there is a lock for it. Trying to carry one unfolded is how consoles get snapped off.
Rebuilding a rack without the bolts in order
Rack bolts are often several different lengths and putting a long one where a short one goes will foul the upright. Bagging and labelling as it comes apart makes the rebuild twenty minutes rather than an hour of trial and error.
Gym equipment moving: common questions
How much does it cost to move gym equipment in London?
Between £140 and £480 including VAT, most near £245. A single treadmill or bike with good access is £140 to £210. A full home gym with a rack, a bench and 200kg of plates is £300 to £480. The plate weight moves that figure more than the number of machines does.
Do you dismantle power racks and multigyms?
Yes, as part of the job. They bolt together from steel sections and come apart into 15 to 30kg pieces, with every bolt bagged and labelled so the rebuild is quick. We reassemble at the other end and check it before leaving.
How heavy is a treadmill?
Between 80 and 140kg, with most of the weight in the motor at the front. The deck folds on almost all of them, which turns a two metre object into something that clears a standard door on its side. Folded and locked is how it travels.
Do I need to tell you how many weight plates I have?
Please do, as a total weight rather than a count of items. Plates routinely make up more than half the work on a home gym move and they are the thing most often left off a booking form. Two hundred kilos on a third floor is several trips of climbing.
Can you move a Peloton?
Yes. Around 60kg, two people, and on most models the screen comes off first because it is the fragile part. Worth naming it specifically rather than calling it an exercise bike, since a Peloton and a 15kg spin bike are quite different carries.
Other single items
Moving more than one thing?
This page is about gym equipment on its own. The single item and furniture delivery page covers the service generally, and what a move costs prices a whole flat or house.
Across Central London
We move gym equipment anywhere in the 37 areas we cover. What changes between them is the parking and the staircase, which is what decides where in the band you land.
